I get up again
you're never gonna keep me down!
When you get knocked down, or are feeling down, how do you call on yourself to get up again, and again?
This was the guiding question during this morning’s Body Strong workout. It became abundantly clear that I meant this question in the literal, physical sense - not only spiritually and emotionally - when the Challenger song played: Tubthumping by Chumbawamba (lol - pretty sure this is also used as a high energy drinking game song).
here’s the whole playlist: Body Strong #9 Get Up Again
We did burpees every time the chorus played, which is often, and goes for a minute straight at the end. When I felt like I couldn’t get up again, I was motivated by one of the other women in the studio pushing themselves to jump, keep going and do just one more. Sometimes, group energy and witnessing someone else put forth effort is the main thing that makes it possible to get up again, and again.
This is one of the reasons I fell in love with kundalini yoga. The cone of power that arises from the whole room being focused, in unison - breathing, chanting and moving energy - is truly something that only exists through community. It can not be created in isolation.
A few days ago I signed up to run my 1st ever race, the Nike Women’s After Dark Half Marathon! I am not an experienced runner. I am 100% depending on group energy and adrenaline to get me over that finish line into a Doechii concert at the Sofi Stadium 13.1 miles later.
I will of course be training. But I for sure won’t be running 13.1 miles on my own during training. Two weeks ago I ran a 14:55 minute mile the first time I stepped on a treadmill in years - and my times have been even less impressive on the streets ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I know that there will be moments in that race when I will need to physically, spiritually and emotionally call upon myself to get up again and keep going. So really, what do you do when you need to make it happen?
Comment and let me know, I’d love to know.
I had to remind myself of this Get Up Again lesson and come here today to tap in and write! I’ve been stuck on an article about whether/how to practice kundalini yoga ethically in light of HBO’s Breath of Fire documentary. It’s still in drafts and very much on my mind, but in the meantime, I want to keep writing and building our kundalini mommy community.
For anyone curious about how my 1,000 day sadhana is progressing, I’m on Day 393 of my Grace of God meditation practice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If walking is for getting somewhere, running it seems is for getting to feel that inner heartbeat in your ears. So getting there, wherever "there" is on the track we call life, must be so rewarding when you get to run and get there fast! all the best🩵
